Our School and Community Vision
When students leave Opotiki Primary School we would like them to…
Achieve at or above national norms in literacy and numeracy to maximize all learning.
Demonstrate initiative to contribute positively within a changing society.
Be confident in their identity.
Maintain effective relationships based on tolerance, respect and honesty within a diverse community.
Values and Learning Qualities
Values
The Whakatohea Education Strategy 2013-2018 found that whanau identified Maori values as an important factor towards academic
success (p.21). Therefore our values are based on Maori values, which are;
Manaakitanga – helping each other, walking the walk, awhi (support), active listening, using our manners
Waananga ako – a reciprocal learning relationship where everybody is a learner
Kotahitanga – respecting and work together to achieve our goals
Mana Motuhake – self-determination and not giving up
Nga Whakapiringatanga – understanding that we all playing important roles and value each other.

Thinkers, Contributors, Resilient and Self-Managers (designed by staff, whanau and students).
